Join the Carpenter Center at 7:30 pm EST for two presentations by artists and AFVS Visiting Faculty members Carissa Rodriguez and Kenneth Tam.

Carissa Rodriguez lives and works in New York City and has exhibited internationally since the mid-1990s. Her work reflects on the material and social conditions through which art is produced, reproduced and received.

Encompassing cinematic, photographic, and sculptural work, her exhibitions present complex and at times personal narratives that reveal dynamics between artist, audience and institution. These artistic concerns are evident in her recent solo exhibitions: The Maid, SculptureCenter, New York (2018) and MIT List Visual Arts Center, Cambridge (2018); I'm normal. I have a garden. I'm a person at CCA Wattis Institute for Contemporary Arts, San Francisco (2015); La Collectionneuse, Front Desk Apparatus, New York (2013); and Carissa Rodriguez, Karma International, Zurich, Switzerland (2012); Busque El Ghost, House of Gaga, Mexico City (2010); and Cherchez La Ghost, New Jerseyy, Basel (2009). Early in her career, Rodriguez exhibited at American Fine Arts, Co., New York (1999 and 1996). She was a core member of Reena Spaulings Fine Art, New York from 2004 to 2015.

Kenneth Tam works in video, sculpture, installation and photography, using the male body as a starting point for discussions about performance, physical intimacy, vulnerability, and private ritual. Tam received his BFA from the Cooper Union. He has had solo exhibitions at the Minneapolis Institute of Art; MIT List Center for Visual Arts; the Visual Arts Center at UT Austin, Commonwealth and Council, LA; Night Gallery, LA; Queens Museum, NY and at the ICA LA. Tam has participated in group shows at 47 Canal, NY; Hollybush Gardens, London; the Hammer Museum, LA; InPractice at SculptureCenter, Queens The Shed’s Open Call. He has participated in residencies including Artist Lab at 18th Street Arts Center; LMCC Workspace; The Core Residency Program at The Museum of Fine Arts, Houston; Pioneer Works; and at The Kitchen. Tam is also a Lecturer at Princeton University and faculty at Bard MFA. He was born in Queens, NY and currently lives there.
