John Hulsey

Graduate Student in Film and Visual Studies

John Hulsey is an artist, filmmaker, and PhD candidate in Film and Visual Studies. He received an AB from Harvard College, an MFA in Interdisciplinary Studio from the University of California Los Angeles, and a maîtrise in Cinema from the University of Paris-III Sorbonne Nouvelle. His work has been presented at Cinéma du Réel (Prix International de la Scam 2019), the U.S. Pavilion of the Venice Architecture Biennial, The Carpenter Center for the Visual Arts, Human Resources Los Angeles, and the Los Angeles Contemporary Archive, among other venues. He has contributed to publications such as OctoberCinémaCreative Time Reports, and various edited volumes. His research has been supported by the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, LEF/Moving Image Fund, Harvard’s Film Study Center, the Puffin Foundation, the Flaherty Film Seminar, and the Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture.
