AFVS Faculty Exhibition: Matt Saunders, On an Overgrown Path
The Department of Art, Film, and Visual Studies congratulates faculty member Matt Saunders on the opening of his solo exhibition, On an Overgrown Path, at Marian Goodman Gallery in New York, on view June 25–August 7, 2026.
The exhibition features a new body of work that expands Saunders' ongoing exploration of the intersections of painting, photography, printmaking, and moving image. Embracing chance and material experimentation, the exhibition includes camera-less photographs, unique prints, and a new two-channel animated work with sound inspired by Leoš Janáček's piano cycle On an Overgrown Path. Together, these works investigate the mutable nature of images, perception, and the relationship between material process and visual experience.
Matt Saunders is the De Ying Professor of Art, Film, and Visual Studies at Harvard University. His work has been exhibited internationally and is held in the collections of major museums including the Museum of Modern Art, the Whitney Museum of American Art, the Tate, and the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston.
On an Overgrown Path is on view at Marian Goodman Gallery, New York, through August 7, 2026. Learn more about the exhibition here.
