Joshua Oppenheimer ’97 on the 50th Anniversary of Indonesia’s Genocide

Documentary filmmaker Joshua Oppenheimer '97, a Special Concentration student who studied filmmaking in VES, writes about the 50th anniversary of the genocide in Indonesia in a New York Times opinion piece, “Suharto’s Purge, Indonesia’s Silence.” Two of Oppenheimer’s films, “The Act of Killing” (2013) and “The Look of Silence” (2015), explore the legacy of this genocide.
