Weir received his BA in 1991 from the University of Minnesota and his PhD in 1997 from Northwestern University. He has worked on nineteenth- and twentieth-century Russian prose, film, Russian philosophy and literary theory. His publications include: Eight Twentieth-Century Russian Plays, ed. and trans. with Timothy Langen (Northwestern University Press, 2000), The Author as Hero (Northwestern University Press, 2002), Leo Tolstoy and the Alibi of Narrative (Yale University Press, 2010).
