Graduate Student in Film and Visual Studies
Yongyu Chen is a writer and first-year PhD student in Film and Visual Studies. His current research interests center on encounters of the visual and the avisual in film — what happens to notions like subjectivity and sovereignty when the visual field is displaced, delayed, intermittent, or centrifugal — especially in relation to ethical thought, poetics, and thinking on collectivity. His creative work touches on his interests both in visual media and in poetry. Yongyu holds a B.A. in Comparative Literature and Spanish from Cornell University.
